It all happened in a bit of a rush as I have been off work ill.(lost my voice)
But I managed to put the Rusty nail collection into the Art School Exhibition, at Manchester School of Art.
Thank you to everyone for your contributions.
I am (eventually) going to make a catalogue of all nails received.

Sharon Blakey e mailed me these photos of her cat, Sparky.
She said she had been wondering where her box of rusty nails had gone, as she has promised me a nail for my collection
Then in came Sparky with a rusty nail attached to his magnetic collar.
Where did he find it?
We will never know..

"Rusty nail as requested - found eventually!...and after much searching..
Despite the fact that I thought it would only be a matter of whenever I decided to look for one..after all, rusty nails are almost everywhere, aren't they?
Ubiquitous things, both uncountable and ten a' penny.
Not so! -according to the law of "Nothing so hard to find as the thing you are looking for"
Anyway, eventually, like I said, there it was and here it is-
Nail found 7-1-09 - On the ground near the side door of the 'Ministerio de Finazas y Precios' Havana, Cuba."

A great nail arrived today from Huntsville, Alabama, USA.
The story with it says.
"My great-aunt kept jars of old nails, pins, cat claws etc around her house-
A superstition to ward off evil spirits and burglars .
This is from one of those jars."
She insists in the letter that this is true, and when her aunt died the family shared out the jars.

From wood from a bonefire on November 5th, which happened in a garden in Widnes, Cheshire.
These nails had to be retrieved from the hot ashes and cooled off.

I have started collecting rusty nails for a project I am doing with the Special Collections at MMU.
In the collection they have a small collection of bent and rusty nails that are archived.
I decided to start my own collection of nails from anyone who would like to donate a rusty nail along with its story.
John M Bennett kindly sent me this one.
"This rusty nail was from my old cold frame, which was blown apart by Hurrican Ike, in September 2008..."
